Almost identical in appearance to the base Q5, the plug-in hybrid Q5 TFSI e is currently the smallest hybrid SUV model available from Audi. The styling is very familiar to Audi, which has been used in almost the entire range in recent years.

Silent and ecological with electricity

Audi claims an electric range of 45 kilometres for the Q5, based on combined WLTP consumption and standard equipment in Finland. The lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 14.1 kWh and Audi reports a combined power consumption of 19.1-17.5 kWh/100km.

The electric motor has a power output of 105 kW and a maximum torque of 350 Nm. The car runs smoothly on electricity alone, especially in urban traffic. There seems to be plenty of power available, and if more power is needed momentarily, the car’s engine will kick in to provide electric power.

There are three different electricity settings. When the battery has enough charge, the car can be driven on electricity alone, or on the internal combustion engine, or both.

Compared to models from BMW and Mercedes, for example, Audi does not allow the Q5 to charge the batteries while driving using the combustion engine.

It is ecologically wrong to charge the batteries with the help of an internal combustion engine. However, this may avoid, for example, heating the car during idling on winter mornings, when the car could be preheated with the batteries.

The standard equipment list

The Q5 TFSI e always comes standard with a few goodies, such as electrically adjustable air-suspended chassis, tow hitch, LED headlights, keyless entry (Advanced key system), front sports seats and longitudinally adjustable rear seats.

The car is also always equipped with Audi’s latest Quattro Ultra all-wheel drive.

The car’s curb weight of 2105 kilograms provides stability for driving. The air-suspended chassis adds a touch of luxury, although the ride could be a little sportier.

How far can the Audi Q5 55 TFSI e drive on electric only?

Audi quotes an electric-only WLTP range of around 45 kilometres for the tested Q5 55 TFSI e from its 14.1 kWh lithium-ion battery. That is enough to cover most daily city commutes without using the 2.0-litre petrol engine, provided the car is charged regularly at home or work.

What engine does the Audi Q5 55 TFSI e have?

The Q5 55 TFSI e combines a 2.0-litre four-cylinder TFSI petrol engine producing 252 hp with a 105 kW electric motor integrated into the seven-speed S tronic transmission. Combined system output is 270 kW (367 hp) and 500 Nm, with permanent quattro Ultra all-wheel drive.

How much does the Audi Q5 55 TFSI e cost in Europe?

The Audi Q5 55 TFSI e Launch Edition started from €66,995 in Finland at the time of testing. The Launch Edition includes air suspension, towing hitch, LED headlights, keyless entry, sports front seats and longitudinally adjustable rear seats as standard, narrowing the gap to options-heavy German rivals.
