At the Finnish launch of the Polestar 2 after Easter, we got a first taste of the car’s features and driveability.
The first Polestar 2 models are twin-engine versions, but later on a more affordable single-engine model with a smaller battery pack will be added to the range.
The Polestar 2 combines minimalist design, great performance handling and an Android-based infotainment system – Polestar 2 was the first car to be equipped with an Android-based system.
The design is eye-catching and the styling language bears similarities to the owner Volvo’s models. The simple and straightforward lines continue inside, where you can feel the use of recycled materials on the surfaces.

In terms of drivability, the Polestar is a true pinnacle of sportiness that won’t run out of power on Finnish roads. The basic Polestar 2 is already very tactile to drive, the chassis has plenty of grip and the steering is precise.
For the driving enthusiasts and those seeking personality, a very limited list of options includes a six-thousand-euro Performance Pack.
The car’s appearance is transformed with gold detailing and 20-inch wheels, but the biggest change is under the bonnet.

Öhlins’ manually adjustable shock absorbers and Brembo’s high-performance brakes allow the Polastar’s charm to be taken all the way to the track.
Due to the limited test drive time, the new Android-based infotainment system was not fully explored. In terms of functionality, the first impression is good, and the user experience on the 11-inch screen is in many respects close to that of an Android tablet. Familiar Google apps are available and updating is easy via wifi.

Polestar 2 is currently available with a 78 kWh battery. Based on the first test drive, the power consumption could be a bit lower. Consumption figures ranged between 20-25 kWh per 100 km. With these consumption figures, the 470 km (WLTP) range stated by Polestar will not be achieved.
The Polestar 2 was a very positive surprise in many respects. The modern design language is appealing inside and out, and overall the Polestar 2 appears to have been finished to a high standard from the very beginning of production.
