The Audi A7 has been turning heads and raising eyebrows since its launch almost a decade ago, and the latest A7 is no exception. At almost five metres tall and weighing two thousand kilograms, the beautiful exterior sets it apart from the competition.

The new A7 is a well-balanced package, with a very elegantly shaped rear light cluster that catches the eye. The roof slopes all the way down to the end of the tailgate.

The design of the cabin has been a success, from the excellent

With the exception of the start and volume buttons, almost all of the controls have been removed from the cabin. This has been done very elegantly by placing two large touchscreens on top of each other in the cockpit, in addition to the instrument panel.

The upper screen controls infotainment system settings such as the navigation system and audio system. The lower display is mainly dedicated to the climate control and other controls such as the start stop and lane keeper.

The screens are easy to use and respond accurately to touch. The volume control is located on the centre console, right on the passenger side, and for ease of use it should be closer to the driver.

The model name 50 TDI may be confusing

When it comes to the A7, the model names can be confusing in terms of size. Depending on the engine, the model name is either 45 TDI or 50 TDI. Both engine options are three-litre V6 diesel engines.

the 45 TDI has 231 horsepower and the 50 TDI in the test car has 286 horsepower. Maximum torques are 500 and 620 Nm respectively.

At least the more powerful engine in the test car moves the big A7 smoothly and effortlessly. Acceleration is claimed to be 5.7 seconds from zero to 60 km/h, but in this size of car the ride feels more like a leisurely stroll than a sporty one. Even with a smaller engine, acceleration is a very respectable 6.5 seconds from zero to 60.

The optional four-wheel drive system is surprisingly agile. In the tightest parking spaces, the car turns spectacularly into its own space without any extra forward and backward rotation. Especially those who drive a lot in cities and urban areas will appreciate the agility of their large car with all-wheel steering.

Antti’s reviews:

Overall rating in the Luxury Cars category: 3.6 / 5.0

Feeling vs. reason: for those who drive a lot and appreciate a quality product, the new A7 is a good choice. The starting price of the A7 is by no means the most expensive and can be considered reasonable, although the optional extras will inevitably push the price up to over 100,000 euros, regardless of the model. The A7 has few rivals in terms of looks and style, as the higher end models are usually Audi A8-style sedans.

The new A7 is, to put it bluntly, odourless and tasteless. Although the appearance is seductive, the driving experience is quite unsurprising. The A7 is a model that offers a safe, effortless and overall high-quality journey from point A to point B. In this car, the car thermometer reads a steady 38.0 degrees before and after the journey.
