BMW X2 xDrive 20dA M-Sport X – the black horse of the BMW range

The BMW X2 is designed to appeal to customers who appreciate trendy styling and stand out from the grey crowd. From the outset, it has to be said that the X2 buyer must have a looser purse strings than average.

The starting price for the cheapest X2 model is just over €40,000, but opting for a larger engine and a few optional extras will easily push the price up by more than 10,000 euros.

Do you notice the increased ground clearance when driving?

You get good value for money, because the X2 is an excellent car and suitable for a wide range of uses. Thanks to its compact size, the car is comfortably agile as a city car, but BMW hasn’t forgotten the excellent driveability of this model either.

The boot space is a generous 470 litres, and when the seats are folded down the boot expands to 1,355 litres. Four adults can travel comfortably and there is good legroom for those in the back.

Inside, the X2 feels like a bigger car than its size, and the driving experience beats almost any competitor in the same class. The steering feel is, as usual for BMW, very tactile and the M-Sport chassis in the test car is thirsty on twisty roads.

Although the X2’s centre of gravity is higher than the 1 and 3 Series, for example, due to the slightly raised ground clearance, it’s not noticeable when driving except as improved outward visibility.

The test car was powered by the most powerful 190 horsepower diesel engine in the range. A 150 hp diesel engine, a notch lower, would also be sufficient.

Same base plate as the X1

The X1 and X2 are available with the same engines. Two petrol and three diesel engine options are available. BMW xDrive four-wheel drive is currently only available with diesel engines.

The X2 is an excellent car for those looking for a personal, high-quality and compact car. With a few optional extras, the car can be customised to suit your personal taste.

On the downside, the price can easily be inflated by options, which can put off buyers who might otherwise be attracted to the car.

Antti’s reviews:

Overall rating in the Premium cars category: 3.5 / 5.0

Sense vs. Reason: on the sensible side, there are better models for the X2 already in the BMW range, not to mention the compact SUV models from other brands. However, the X2 is a model that can be used in many ways and is a very comfortable companion in a busy everyday life. It has everything you need in a compact size and its potential rivals in the premium class are few and far between.

Car humour: the X2 is fun as a whole, but doesn’t really raise a huge amount of car humour, for better or worse. Inside, the X2 is essentially a familiar and safe BMW with an interesting and youthful exterior.
